Beliefs

“Simplicity and excellence in a few crucial areas will lead to a life of success and significance in many areas.” - Scott Schuler

Scott’s beliefs and focus for living a life of significance are summed up in the following three categories:

SCOTT’S PRIMARY FOCUS

  1. Seek God and His Kingdom:  Focus on God first and foremost. “But strive first for the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matt. 6:33
  2. Faithful Husband and Provider: Love Julie and be faithful to her. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her…” Eph. 5:25
  3. Serve the Body of Christ: Love the Church and teach people about Jesus! “I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Eph. 3:18-21

CORE VALUES AND BELIEFS

God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit:

My life is committed to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:4-6; John 14:6, 15:26).

Jesus the Incarnate Christ:

Jesus the Messiah (John 3:16, 14:6; Acts 13:23) was crucified, died and resurrected on the third day (John 11:25-26; Luke 24:6-7). Jesus ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9-11) and is returning soon (John 14:3; Acts 1:11).

New Creation in Christ through Faith:

I am cleansed of sin and justified through God’s grace and Christ’s blood (Rom. 3:22b-25a) making me a new creation by faith (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 2:20).

Greatest Commandments:

Love God and love people (Matt. 22:37-39).

The Bible Is Truth:

God’s Word is infallible and not of human origin (Prov. 30:5-6; John 1:14; Gal. 1:11-12; 2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Spiritual Giftedness:

God is the provider of all spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12:4-11).

Heaven and Hell Exist:

There is Heaven (Gen. 14:19) and there is hell (2 Peter 2:4).

Satan Seeks to Destroy Man

Satan the adversary attempts to keep us from Christ (Matt. 10:28; John 10:10).

Live Simplistically in God

God created man upright but man followed his own path (Eccl. 7:29).

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

Listen, Glorify, Obey:

Listen to God (Isaiah 6:8) and do all things to glorify Him (1 Peter 4:11) by being obedient (John 14:21) to Jesus.

Overcomer through the Blood of Jesus:

I am more than an overcomer through Jesus’ Blood (Rev. 12:11) and this builds my faith on the foundation of Christ (Matt. 7:24-27).

Love God; Hate Evil:

Guard my heart (Prov. 4:23) by bringing all thoughts captive to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5); love God and hate what is evil (Rom. 12:9).

Live by the Spirit:

Live by faith and the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23a) and avoid the sinful nature (Gal. 5:19-21) by denying fleshly passions (Gal. 5:24-26).

Speak Truth and Do Not Judge:

Speak truth and not evil (Eph. 4:29) and do not judge others (Matt 7:1).

Humility:

Walk in humility (Phil. 2:5-11; James 4:6-8).

Know God:

Seek to experience the breadth, length, height, depth, and fullness of God (Eph. 3:17-20).

Pray Without Ceasing:

Consistently pray (1 Thess. 5:16-18) and be anxious for nothing (Phil. 4:6-7).

Bear the Cross:

Take up the cross of Christ daily (Luke 9:23-25), which means surrendering every part of my life to Jesus for His glory.

Living a Life for Jesus:

Do not be a lover of this world (1 John 2:16) or what it has to offer, but rather surrender my will so the will of Jesus and His purpose will be fulfilled in my life.
